Many NDAS source code are now under the GNUv2 license and are available on GitHub for download. We hope to move away from vendor lock in that has  stagnated development and distribution of NDAS. Follow the link below to download or create a fork.

IOCELL Networks, a pioneer of Network Direct Attached Storage (NDAS) technology, has created a multifunctional external storage solution with the NetDISK 351UNE featuring NDAS technology. The next generation network storage enclosure is equipped with network, USB and eSATA interfaces, to meet network, USB or eSATA storage needs.

IOCELL Networks last week purchased the rights to a technology called NDAS (network direct attached storage) from Ximeta, the company that originally created it.

NDAS, which Ximeta developed in 2003, is a way to connect any direct-attach digital storage device into standard Ethernet networks, allowing all users or systems on the network the ability to directly control, use, and share those devices.

Human Media Company, an authorized distributor IOCELL, introduced for sale in Poland, a network drive enclosure NETDISK 351UNE, acting on a unique technology called NDAS. Cover allows you to install one hard drive with capacity up to 2TB and has a triple interface for data transmission: USB, eSATA, 1Gbit LAN.

Network direct attached storage drives (NDAS) such as Iocell’s Netdisk 351UNE offer an alternative to traditional NAS drives for shared, network storage. The idea is that, by shunning TCP/IP in favour of the NDAS protocol, overheads are reduced and performance increased.

VERDICT: It's a basic NAS, but it's still a great buy thanks to its simple configuration, fast performance and low price.

Most network attached storage (NAS) devices need to be configured before they can be used. Although most NAS web management interfaces are straightforward, they can be daunting and time-consuming if you're a network storage novice. IOCELL promises that the NETDISK 351UNE is so simple to set up that it takes mere minutes.

Many moons ago (September 2003, to be exact), I reviewed a storage product that advertised itself as a cheaper alternative to NAS. Ximeta’s original NetDisk was an 3.5″ IDE drive enclosure with USB and Ethernet ports that could either attach directly to your computer or sit on an Ethernet LAN through the magic of Ximeta’s NDAS (Network Direct Attached Storage) technology.
